In Loving Memory, ![]() A tribute, memorial, and personal blog, for my sponsor Clancy I., Clancy Imislund, who helped to save my life and the lives of countless thousands of alcoholics around the world. Clancy's mark on and in AA History stands right next to Bill W. and Chuck C. Clancy was my sponsor. Myself, and others whom Clancy sponsored were assigned a "check-in" time and day, where we'd call or meet with Clancy, at a scheduled time to "weigh-in" for the week, and discuss what was going on in our lives; talk about any problems we were facing and dealing with; and to get guidance on changes we were making or contemplating. Wednesday, at a specific time was my "Check-in with my Sponsor Time and Day". ![]() In my case, since I had moved from Los Angeles to Fort Smith, Arkansas -- I also had to write and send a detailed letter to Clancy, because he couldn't look me in the eye as I gave my report. For those of you who were Sponsored by Clancy -- you well remember the routine and an 'Oh what an experience!' it was. Today, as I begin this project, (November 22, 2023): It's Wednesday. And this is my time to 'check-in'. And tomorrow -- is Thanksgiving Day. I have much to be thankful and grateful for, because of God, Clancy, Chuck C., to the many 'Old Timers' who have helped me and gone before me; to my friends and family in 'The Fellowship of the Spirit' and the program of recovery and fellowship of AA; and to another very special someone, that's important to protect her anonymity (she knows who she is). During the last few years of Clancy's living, physical presence in my Life, I began thinking about, "What do I do, if I ever call to check-in, and I find out that Clancy has joined his Sponsor, Chuck C., and moved on to another plane of existence?" ![]() So, one day, on my telephone call with Clancy, I asked him, "Sir. What do I do -- if you happen to die before I do?" Clancy paused and was quiet for a time. Then, he said "You'll know what to do." In addition to serving as a memorial and my personal tribute to Clancy, I hope to use this space as a way to follow Clancy's guidance and advice, of "Doing what I know to do". ~Dallas B.
